Renaissance Granite & Quartz started in 1997 as a tile shop in downtown Des Moines. With a background in the tile business, owner Pat Fisher based Renaissance around distributing, contracting and installing tile. While tile was the main focus, an interest in granite countertops brought them into the world of natural stone fabrication. After purchasing a sawing system and hand fabrication equipment, the crew was ready to begin producing countertops.
What started as a few countertop jobs here and there, turned into something bigger and Fisher knew stone fabrication is where this family business wanted to be. Things started taking off and after about four years of fabricating tops, the 8,000 square foot shop downtown could no longer hold the business. Fisher decided to build a larger facility and in 2001 Renaissance Granite & Quartz opened a new fabrication shop and showroom just outside of Des Moines in Urbandale, Iowa. Renaissance still resides at this location which sits on 4.25 acres of land and has 23,000 square feet to call home.
Renaissance is always committed to technology and efficiency, so along with the new building came new equipment. After 2001, the switch to improved sawing systems and line polishers was made. Renaissance now uses LT-55 laser templating system during the measuring process and combines AutoCAD drawings with CNC and water jet cutting machines for a faster and more consistent finished product. But machines can’t do it all, so a large section of the shop is still dedicated to hand fabrication.
Renaissance is a member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Marble Institute of America (MIA), Home Builders Association (HBA) of Greater Des Moines, and National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) Iowa Chapter.
Renaissance continues to grow by adding new technology, product and staff, creating a close-knit and customer-focused experience. The newly remodeled showroom is the perfect storefront for the business and the 20,000 square foot facility expansion shows dedication to a growing customer base.
